Crusoe and atNorth: Powering real world impact with advanced, sustainable infrastructure
We partnered with atNorth to plant 65,000 trees in Iceland in support of the country's 2030 Forest Initiative — proof that high-performance computing and community stewardship can go hand in hand.

At the intersection of advanced digital infrastructure and sustainable community engagement, Crusoe and atNorth are pioneering a model for responsible growth. At Crusoe, we believe that true progress means growing alongside the communities where we operate. Likewise, atNorth embeds sustainability and community engagement into its operations by designing data centers powered by renewable energy and engineered for long-term efficiency and community benefit. This shared philosophy has been a driving force behind our collaboration in Iceland.

When Crusoe expanded our cloud computing capacity at ICE02, we wanted to make sure that growth translated into something meaningful for the local community. We launched our first regeneration initiative in Iceland together with atNorth, a tree-planting program designed to support the country’s 2030 Forest Initiative, to revitalize degraded areas, strengthen local ecosystems, and contribute to a sustainable future for Iceland.
Creating real impact through positive partnership
Our tree-planting initiative is more than a symbolic gesture. It reflects both companies' philosophy of integrating social and environmental impact into our work. Our success is deeply connected to the communities where we operate. By weaving sustainability and community engagement into our operations, we’re ensuring that innovation, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion go hand in hand.
Our collaboration with atNorth shows that digital infrastructure can be both high-performing and environmentally responsible. atNorth’s commitment to circular design and renewable power gives us a strong foundation on which to build. Its focus on optimizing resource efficiency (from cooling innovation to waste heat reuse) aligns seamlessly with our energy-first strategy, enabling responsible scale with minimal environmental impact.
By locating hyperscale GPU data centers in energy-rich, cool-climate regions like Iceland, we can significantly reduce the need for mechanical cooling and improve overall efficiency. Together with atNorth, we’ve extended this focus on sustainability to the local community through projects that deliver tangible environmental benefits.
Looking ahead: A model for responsible growth
Over the next five years, we plan to sponsor the planting of 65,000 trees, helping the municipality of Rekjanesbær move closer to its goal of planting 210,000 trees by 2030. Our teams at both Crusoe and atNorth will take part in annual planting efforts, alongside other educational and sustainability initiatives.

atNorth’s deep connection to the Icelandic community and growing focus on regional environmental
Initiatives have been invaluable in shaping this initiative. Their experience engaging local partners ensures that our combined efforts deliver measurable, lasting benefits for both people and the planet.
As Crusoe continues to expand globally, we remain committed to connecting innovation, sustainability, and community. Our partnership with atNorth demonstrates that high-performance digital infrastructure and community engagement can amplify one another, that sustainability can be a shared value versus competitive differentiator, and that collaboration between like-minded companies can set a new standard for the digital infrastructure industry.
In Iceland, this vision is already taking root — quite literally — one tree at a time.
